Energy that stays local.

In an energy community, people, municipalities or businesses join forces to generate, use and share electricity from renewable sources together. The electricity stays within the community — and so does the value it creates.

Renewable energy communities (EEG) operate within the local area of the electricity grid: local (same transformer, around 57% lower grid charge energy rate) or regional (same substation, around 28% lower). Citizen energy communities (BEG) may extend across all of Austria but receive no reduction in grid charges. In addition, there are joint generation facilities (GEA), such as a shared PV system on an apartment building.

For our member communities we take care of the web presence (their own website within the shared system), administration and paperwork — from founding through the Register of Associations to applications. On top of that come knowledge sharing, templates and advocacy.

Full members are associations and organisations that operate or promote energy communities. In addition, there are associate and supporting members who back the association in kind or financially.

Submit your membership application directly via this website. The board decides on admission; once approved, your community receives its own website and access to the administration tools.

Admission fees and membership dues are set by the general assembly. We are happy to share the current terms on request.

Yes. Every member community receives its own microsite with its own look and feel (colours, logo) on a shared, accessible technical foundation — including news, events, team and forms.

An EEG is limited to the local grid area (transformer or substation), uses exclusively renewable sources and benefits from reduced grid charges. A BEG can extend across all of Austria and all grid levels, is limited to electricity, and receives no reduction in grid charges.
