Energy communities on the path to professionalization

Energy communities in Austria find themselves at a turning point: after years in which membership growth was the primary focus, the professionalization of operational processes is now taking center stage. A key driver for this is the new Netzentwicklungsplanverordnung, which sets clear framework conditions for the further development of the electricity grid and thus also affects energy communities.

At the same time, the use of digital solutions is gaining importance in order to improve coordination and transparency within the communities. This makes it traceable who feeds in or consumes how much energy, and administrative effort can be reduced. For members, this means greater efficiency in everyday life and a better overview of their own energy balance.

The industry as a whole is thus showing that it is developing from a pure growth phase towards more structured and efficient processes. Digitalization is thus becoming a central building block for keeping energy communities functional and attractive in the long term.
